Yes, Raj Thakre is right. He is the person who really cares for Maharashtra.

This Mahesh Bhatt &c should show its heroism in Bihar against the naxalites. Resisiting the unarmed civilized fight of the MNS is like trying to scuttle the voice of people. What MNS is doing has an extra-ordinarily large mass base and support. The support MNS garners is not being imagined by Mahesh Bhatt. This man polularizes his movies only with gory violence and carnal desires of men; he can't produce a movie in a sensible manner. He has no right to fight against the people's movement in Maharashtra. Marathi is not a European or Micronesian language to resist so much. If Hindi was pressed as National Language, it was an argument that a foreign language - English - should not be our National Language. Now, as per the norms of all States, Marathi boards are to be displayed, why so much hue and cry? In a way it it good that they are resisting: Let Maharashtra see what people it is inviting and nurturing right in their home!

Ya, I totally agree with Raj Thakre. Infact, being 'marathi', we all have to support him instead all leg pulling; what we have been doing since long to preserve our language and our culture.

I don't understand why there is opposition for simple Marathi boards? Nothing to loose, it's a local language, they can have it in Marathi as well as any other language if they prefer. Why they allow it to make this as a political issue? Every businessman should fight bigger fights like consistent electicity, infrastructure development etc

I completely support the RAJ Thakare. He is doing great things about marathi & maharashtra.

I want to ask mahesh bhat that, can he do the same thing in chennai or other south state? South state is very much strict about their local language.

Raj thakare go ahead ... we are with u....

Those saying Raj Thakre should go to BIHAR and Kashmir are pure anti-maharashtrians.

Shriman-You should go visit Bangalore, Madras, Jaipur. Perhaps you will not be able to read the numbers and letters. Even an auto/taxi person will not speak with you in HINDI! I appreciated their love for state language and treat the visitor as a person from outside world!

Raj Thakre is taking the law in his hands. If Congress(i) cannot impose Marathi in Maharashtra.. someone has to do it. Maybe the methods are through revolt and unpeaceful.. but someone has to put the process of marathi right, at least in maharashtra.

We all support anyone who does good for Marathi! All the Bangladeshi, Gujarathi, Bihari, Bhaya, Kanadigaas, Madrasese are visitors in Maharashtra. They need to learn marathi and live like marathi. Not the opposite! "Jaisa Desh Vaisa Besh"..

Support Raj Thakre/ Shiv Sena (ONLY on Marathi ISSUE)!

Jai Maharashtra,
Jai Bhavani!

Think about this. In whole world there are communities who speak maximum two languages. First is native and second is business. They take pride while talking in their native language. I was in Italy, when I demanded ticket in English, and lady was upset to know I can't speak English, even though it was obviuos from my color that I am asian.

Only in Maharashtra, we have this tradition of speaking in hindi and English, and disparaging our own lang Marathi. Young Marathi people condsider talking in Hindi more fashionable, when Marathi lang is much more advanced then hindi gramatically and word wise. Take a look at Southern states and the progress they have made, where people are investing there time learning other things instead of one more language.

And what use it is to learn hindi anyway? Only to see movies/listen to songs, can't we have Marathi movies and songs as Southern india have their own? Officially hindi is utterly useless as all of us know anywhere. Babu bends when spoken to in English. *h*indi people make fun of Marathi people for not speaking hindi lang even though it not our lang, and expect us to communicate with then in hindi, even though they are in Maharashtra, can they ever dare to speak hindi in Italy?

Raj is the best thing that has happened to Maharashtra. I wish him best of luck

hindustan - hindi
gujrat: gujrati language
tamilnadu: tamil language
aasam: assamese language
karnataka: kannadi
aandhra: telagu
west bengal: bangali
if these guys have no problem with their regional language...why should Maharashtra = marathi equation is seen as bad..
it is perfectly straight forward and simple comment.
Mumbai is a cosmopolitan city..financial capital of MHA and India ..good..but it is capital of Maharashtra also..so why should there be problem with marathi..its a ragional language like any other state ,and if someone is passionate about the issue...whats wrong my fellow brother Indians..had your shops been in kerala or tamilnadu, wouldn't you guys had those regional language boards..then what is the problem with marathi boards..
Think about it ,its not something outragious..its plane and simple..use a regional language board with an english board at the side..simple solution. even if this comment had been from congress /BJP..everyone should support it ,as it is not a provoking thing at all,its just a simple regional issue.. and if Raj has brought it up..why should he be targetted?.. Raj is probably the most charismatic leader at present in MHA and it is just start..beleive it or not..he will only be stronger and bigger in a matter of 10 years.. he is just launching his party, but I am sure he will turn out to be a great leader who will do a lot for social welfare ..not personal welfare like other politicians...if Obama can do it in USA despite vouched a s less experienced..why not Raj in MHA..Rajbhai tum aage bado, hamara pura support hai...aata he hindi madhe bolalo mhanun bhandu naka !!

MNS is creating a mild form of terror. Raj Thakre is not an elected official. He is trying to enforce a policy that has not been voted upon / agreed upon. We are a democracy. This is terror. In India, we should be Indian first Maharashtrain later. Nobody should be compelled to put up Marathi boards. This is insane. Being a Marathi Manoos, it insults me to see this kind of stupidity. I have studied history and this is not what Chhatrapati would have condone. Jai Hind. Jai Maharashtra.

I'm a staunch supporter of Maharashtra's great historic culture and traditions. And Shivaji Maharaj was one of the best rulers in India just like Rana Pratap or Tipu Sultan. While insisting upon Marathi, do the people who are leading this movement, love the language and culture from the bottom of their heart? If yes, can anyone go and ask why do Sachin Tendulkar's kids attend an English medium school? And its not only him, its you, me and everyone. I know quite a few so-called Marathi teens who cant even speak a single Marathi sentence properly because they have gone to English schools. Those politicians who expect the common man to follow marathi should first look into their own homes. If we want to preserve our language and culture, we should try to teach its importance to our next generation. Those who feel real love for the language, please send your kids to Marathi medium schools, Marathi should be a mandatory first language in all primary schools throughout the state. About the sign-boards, it is good to have them in Marathi but this shouldn't be made a political issue, legislation should be used.

Raj's statement is ethical and not political. He is always describing the Marathi person mind and he is correct.
The people from outside are missusing their designations and positions. Why most of higher positions in jobs occupied by outsiders? Why your organization management not having Marathi people? Because outsiders always try to pull down legs of Marathi Manus.Thats why Marathi manus is in the dark of dreams. And Marathi manus do not want such people in Maharastra.

Also if all the other communities can live in harmony and peace in Maharashtra, why cant the Outsider do that. Gujratis, Parsis, South Indians have shifted to Maharashtra and have followed and respected the tradition and culture of Maharashta and so do Marathi people for their culture. But Biharis and people from UP (North Indians) try to scathe a force and try to show that their tradtion and culture is above others which is unacceptable. This is the truth.

This is such an interesting blog. I find the comments/debate to be very interesting, even if I don't understand everything that is being discussed. I do agree that the Marahi language should be given a stronger position though.

Just if you guys are interested, this is a great Marathi site that you might enjoy:
