There are following points i thinka re very impoertant in mimizing fuel comsumption:

1. Wastage of fuel because of traffic congestion which is mainly the result of very very bad roads, unplanned, un-cordinated and uncontrolled public work on roads, self driving discipline, traffic police needs more concertration on traffic rules and regularizing traffic than harrasing public.

2. Public trasnport availability and once it is available then its quality. Six seaters are making more money collectively than PMT or PCMT may be.. Why ? see the service and flexibility they provide.

3. Car pooling. This is a great concept and Mumbai has taken a lead in the same. There is a web site run by somebody to enroll and use car pooling.

4. Local trains
Mumbai has already proven the importance. Why can't we invest in trains. People will prefer those over other fuel consuming options.

5. Enforce vehicular inspections and condition checks. Seen PMTs and other govt vehicles emitting black carbon and thus consuming and not burning the fuel to extent. Same goes for private vehicles. These can be kept off the road.

6. Promote Use of bicycles - try providing free bicycles wherever possible.

Thanks a lot Sakal for giving the opportunity to express.

If we have space on roads to walk, and footpaths are free, many will walk too.

My experience in Pune - children going to school, people wanting to do daily purchases from shops close-by, or senior citizens doing their daily quota of exercise have no place to walk on roads.
