Does Sex Education Means Sex in Education for Government?
Our reader Netra Daoo writes about Maharashtra Government's decision about banning sex education in schools across Maharshtra. Read these articles in Sakaal Saptarang here, here and here. On background of the fact underlined in these articles, that the maturity age of girls is lowering to disturbing levels, there is a clear need for rethink of this ban. Sakaal's editorial looks at this issue in perspective. It says -
विधानसभेत झालेली चर्चा मात्र या संवेदनशील विषयाला न्याय देणारी नव्हती. साधकबाधक विचार करून यातून मार्ग काढण्याऐवजी एकदम बंदी टाकण्याचा निर्णय घेणे हे घातक आहे. विरोध करणाऱ्या आमदारांची वक्तव्ये पाहता, त्यांचा लैंगिक शिक्षणाला विरोध नाही. सध्या ज्या पद्धतीने हे शिक्षण दिले जाणार आहे, त्याला त्यांचा आक्षेप आहे. कामप्रेरणेवर मोकळेपणे चर्चा करण्याची सवय आपल्या समाजात नाही. नैतिक मूल्यांची गुंतागुंत त्याभोवती आहे व ती सर्व समजून घेणे लहान वयात मुलांना शक्‍य होत नाही. म्हणून हे शिक्षण देण्यासाठी शिक्षकांजवळ वेगळे कौशल्य हवे. तसेच भारतीय परंपरा व मानसिकता लक्षात घेता, पाश्‍चिमात्य देशांप्रमाणे येथे शिक्षण देता येणार नाही. ते अनौपचारिक पद्धतीनेच द्यावे लागेल आणि त्यामध्ये शिक्षकांइतकेच, किंबहुना थोडे अधिकच पालकांना सामावून घ्यावे लागेल.Here are the thoughts of Netra Daoo -

This is with reference to the short-sighted and too-much
hyped decision of the Maharashtra Govt to ban the sex education in schools
across Maharashtra.
This is totally not in pace with the times we are living in. Today children are attaining maturity at a very lower age as copmared to around 10 years back. They are exposed to so much information at such an early age that they are bound to become confused and get wrong information from wrong people. So it is better to give right information from right people which includes the doctors, psychiatrists, and the social activists. These people can answer their questions about sexuality properly and accurately. So instead of going for porn films or websites which never give
accurate information or rather give an exagerrated view of everything, they will
know what is the truth about the human sexuality.
So the Govt. should rethink this decision and save the entire generation from falling into pery of the so called westernization of relations.

When the M'tra Govt comprises of many elected representatives,who are mostly uneducated,what do you expect from them?Any & everything that they touch as a policy turns into a great hash & scam,be it electricity generation or sex education in schools!The former subject has been at the forefront of the present govt for yrs,but except pointing fingers at previous non congress govt for all continuing ills,the story has only got worsened every summer with much greater load shedding!
See the most touching & careful handling of the SENSITIVE subject of sex education by Aparna Pakhmode in Sakal supplement 'SAPTARANG' on 8th April,07 & contrast it with the care-a-damn attitude of the M'tra govt legislators,who,when confronted with some startling facts & figures,in stead of studying the subject in depth including comparing it with statistics & data of other Indian states & countries abroad so as to find a long overdue solution to impart necessary sex education,find the easiest way out by just pushing the subject under the carpet!
कोठल्याही प्रश्नाचे उत्तर शोधण्या आधी आपले ध्येय निश्चित करणे आवश्यक आहे. ध्येय ठरवताना ते जास्तीत जास्त समावेशक कसे होईल याची काळजी घेतली पाहिजे. शासनाचा गोंधळ ध्येय सर्वसमावेशक नसल्यामुळे झाला आहे. शासनाच्या ध्यानी, मनी, डोळ्यासमोर फक्त एडस आहे. एडसच्या भीतीने शासनाला इतके ग्रासले आहे की, एडस शिवाय शासनाला इतर कांही दिसतच नाही. दूरदर्शनवरील जाहिराती, वर्तमानपत्रे, भित्तीपत्रके, दवाखाने व अशाच ठिकाणी पाहिले तर याची प्रचिती येईल.
किशोरवयीन मुलामुलीना पोटापाण्याला आबश्यक असणाऱ्या ज्ञानाव्यतिरिक्त इतरही ज्ञानाची आवश्यकता आहे हे मान्य केलेच पाहिजे. लैंगिक ज्ञाव हे बाकी ज्ञानापैकी एक आहे. ध्येय ठरवताना विद्यार्थ्याना वयात येताना ज्या अडचणी येऊ शकतात त्या बद्दल सूचीत करणे व त्यावर कशी मात करावी या संबंधी माहिती देणे हे उदिष्ठ समोर ठेऊन शिक्षण दिले तर ते फायदेशीर होईल. या करता स्वतंत्र अभ्यासक्रमाची तसे पाहिले तर आवश्यकता वाही. विज्ञाव शिक्षणात कांही अंशी व नागरिकशस्त्रात कांही अंशी हे ज्ञान देता येईल.
मला आठवते महाविद्यालयत शास्त्र शाख़ेच्या पहिल्या वर्षामध्ये एक प्राध्यपिका आम्हाला शरीरविज्ञान शिकवत असत. त्या मध्ये रीप्रॉडक्शन (मराठीत याला काय म्हणतात हे कोणी जाणकार सांगू श्केल) बद्दल माहिती देताना त्यानी एक महत्त्वाची बाब आमच्या निदर्शनास आणली. पुरुष उधळे असतात. कोट्यवधी वीर्यजंतू निर्माण करतात व त्या पैकी एखादाच उपयोगी पडतो. वर्गामध्ये मुली सुद्धा होत्या परंतु, ना मुली लाजल्या ना मुलाना अवघडल्यासार्खे वाटले. माझ्यामते त्याचे कारण साधे असावे त्या आम्हाला शरीर्शास्त्र शिकवत होत्या, कामशास्त्र नव्हे. या वरुन हे ही सिद्ध होते की, थोडे बहुत लैंगिक शिक्षण ५० वर्षापूर्वी निदान शास्त्र शाखेच्या विद्यार्थ्याना देत असत व त्या करता लैंगिकशिक्षण हा स्वतंत्र विषय म्हणून शिकवण्याची आवश्यकता नाही.
स्त्रियांचे हक्क, कायदे याच्याबद्दल माहिती नागरीक्शास्त्रामध्ये समाविष्ठ करता येईल. शाररीक व्यायाम शिकवताना स्वसंरक्षण कसे करावे हे शिकवता येईल.
या प्रकारे सध्या अस्तित्वात असलेल्या विषयातून ध्येय साध्य करता येईल. इतरांचे विचार समजले तर मला आनंद होईल.
